I Thought Of You Today

I thought of you today,
As I looked out the window and over the street
Seeing the shop, a place to meet.
I thought of you there, waiting for me,
Wondered what laughter and stories there'd be.
I thought of you today.

I thought you today,
As I rose from my bed and stared at the morn'
Wondering what kind of a day had been born.
Would this day deliver the gift that is you?
Would we be together? What would we do?
I thought of you today.

I thought of you today,
As I wandered the pathway feeling the sun
Sensing you there, holding my hand,
I thought of you smiling, laughing and free,
Eyes that would glisten when looking at me.
I thought of you today.

I thought of you today.
Through afternoon shadows and softening dusk
The scent of your hair, the touch, the trust,
Where evening will take us, we know not for now,
Yet soon it will come and take us somehow.
I thought of you today.

I think of you now.
As I lay down to sleep and my rest is at hand,
Your fingers touching, a sweet angel's wand,
Your breath breathing life and your heart beating hope.
Drowned I into sleep and you are the rope.
I'll hold onto you for as long as I can,
Knowing 'twil end as it must for a man.
Thinking of you as my eyes gently close,
Seeing you with me in gentle repose.
Feeling your hands enfold as a glove,
Wrapping me up in your gentling love.
I think of you now.
